Configuring Date and Time in Windows
We are to the 6th installment of our basic computer learning program. This will be a shorter section as there really is not very much to it. Of course it can always be annoying when the clock on your pc is not correct, or you are in the wrong time zone or have taken off daylight savings time. Regardless it is still necessary to know how to set the correct date and time on your computer and that is what this lesson will teach you.
Accessing Date/Time in Windows XP
First go to the control panel by left clicking the start button and then left clicking the control panel (see below)
Next it will pull up this screen if you are in Start Menu View (see below)
If you are in classic view it will pull up a screen like below.
Next click either date and time or change date and time. Either one pulls up the same options. Do not worry about the languages or regional settings those we will go over in later lessons.
When you click either of the date and times it pulls up the following utility.
This one is really self explanatory. You can just click on the time and type in the time or use the up arrows. As far as the date you can just click the day and it becomes that day. Also notice the drop down with the month in it. We can select the month and even the year if you like. The next tab (time zone) looks like this:
You can use the drop down to select the time zone and also place a check to adjust for daylight savings time. The final tab (internet time) allows you to synchronize with a time server out on the internet which will giving you very accurate time based on a time server.
