Free and Secure PC Remote Access Software

In this article I will discuss pc remote access software.That means you can access your home pc from anywhere in the world. You can do it free, secure and relatively easily.

Just follow the instructions below for the software package you decide to go with. Although there are a variety of solutions to remotely access your computer I prefer to do it for free. If it’s free it’s for me. Therefore, I will first focus on the free options and then give you some options where you can purchase pc remote access software.

Note: None of the following remote access software products require the user to change settings in their firewall.

Where to find free pc remote access software.

Well there are primarily two ways to remotely and securely access your pc for free.

PC Remote Access Software you can use without someone being present on both ends of the connection.

My favorite pc remote access software where people must not be present on both ends is teamviewer. Teamviewer is made by the people who make ultravnc and is extremely easy to use and user friendly. The graphics are not great but hey its free.

Steps to install and use teamviewer

1. Download teamviewer by clicking here for teamviewer

2. Install teamviewer

3. Run teamviewer and then enter your partners id to do whatever is in the radio button. See below.

4. After you enter the id it will then prompt you for a password. Enter that and you should be good to go. See below.

5. Then you get the following remote control screen

The only negative to teamviewer is that you can only use it 25 hours per month and it is not cheap to buy a license either unfortunately. It is an excellent piece of software though.

The most secure way to accomplish this is to install two pieces of software that operate together to give you a complete solution. The two pieces of remote access software are logmein hamachi and UltraVNC

LogmeIn Hamachi

The first piece of pc remote access software is called Hamachi. Hamachi was recently purchased by logmein so it called logmein hamachi now but it is still free. It is a wonderful piece of software that allows you to setup a secure connection between two endpoints by using a secure proxy server in the middle.

There are several pay offering of this same technology but hamachi is very good and free. Of course you can upgrade to a pay version which is faster if you like.

Steps to Install and use Himachi

1. Go to the hamachi website by clicking here to download Logmein Hamachi

2. Download and install hamachi – skip the registration and then download the windows version.

3. For the security question it is a complex way of asking you if you would like to be able to share files over the internet via the Hamachi connection. This is fairly secure but generally speaking I disable it.

How to setup a new network and get going.

Click on the second button over (see below)

It gives you the option to create or join an existing network and then it asks for a password. Just configure both sides of the network you want to access and you should be able to connect.

UltraVNC

Well installing software and connecting the two sides of the network don’t do much good if you can’t do anything. Next you have to install some remote access software so you can control and see your home pc remotely.

Steps to Install and use WinVNC

1. Go to the UltraVNC Website by clicking here to download ultravnc.

2. Download and install UltraVNC (NOTE: USE THE STABLE VERSION DO NOT USE THE BETA)

3. Set up UltraVNC – ok this part can be a little complex. UltraVNC works where one side is a server and the other side is a client. So you setup the server on the pc you want remote access to.

4. Click on the run ultravnc server and the screen below will pop-up

Configure it just like above. Make sure you know the password you will need it to login to the other pc.

5. Open up the viewer on the client computer and type the ip of where you want to go.

Here is a free piece of pc remote access software that is very simple to use. The name of this one is crossloop.

Steps to install and use crossloop

1. Download crossloop by clicking here to download crossloop

2. Install crossloop

3. The side who want to give up control or allow someone else to control their pc must share the connection and give the access code to the other side of the connection, the side who wants to assume control of the connection.

4. The side who wants to control types in the access code.

5. The side hosting the connection will then be asked if you would like to give up control to the other side. Just accept and the other side can transfer files, control or do whatever they like.

The great thing about this program is the fact that it is easy, you can share files and it is secure.
